Hello friends,
I hope Spring has sprung for good now in your neck of the woods! I just love the smell and sounds of Springtime! We have had a ton of wildlife visiting our yard: Squirrels ( but that is nothing new), chipmunks, birds, ducks ( yes, you read that right, and no, we do not live near water!) , and 2 rabbits, which I have dubbed Peter and Mopsy. I think Peter and Mopsy are nesting nearby, if not IN our yard ( possibly under our shed) because they make appearances very frequently. So I am expecting to see little baby bunnies pretty soon! Last year we ended up with a nest of bunnies right by our back porch. So cute for us to see, but not very clever of the mama, considering that our dogs walk past that spot frequently and it did not take long for them to be found! So we had to barricade the nest so that the dogs could not, but the mama could get to the babies. Not an easy task, I'll tell you! This year I hope that the rabbits are smarter, but just in case I have already barricaded the nesting spot from last year so no unwelcome doggie visits will be happening!
While we have Peter and Mopsy on the outside, I have added Peter on the inside of our house as well, in the form of my latest quilt! This one was just a super simple one, made with 4 inch squares, and then quilted very simply with swirls by me. It will be a perfect addition to our lap quilt collection!
Spring is being very cool here. Have a 30°F night forecast for next week so some of my perennials may get nipped.
ReplyDeleteI just love all of your projects. Your newly completed one is a wonderful, happy little quilt! Good way to use small scraps.
Ooh, that is dropping low...we had one night at 39 but my plants were okay with that. I hope that the Temps go back up soon!
DeleteYour quilt is so cute and looks great in your house. I can hardly wait to see your red and white one. Also, what you do with the tulip blocks.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know I'm not the only one who names wildlife. We have lots of squirrels (probably due to the hickory nut trees on our property). Last year we had 2 little ones appear. They didn't look very old. They were very little compared to the others so I'm assuming they were just out of the nest. After a few days one of the squirrels showed up with half its tail hanging. I called a wildlife rescue lady to see if I needed to try to catch it and bring it to her. She said he would be ok and he was. After a couple of more days the part that was hanging came off or he chewed it off and the little tail that was left stood straight up. I got my binoculars and watched for any infection but never saw any. The tail healed up fine. For some reason I decided that squirrel was a male and I decided to name him Stubbie. The other little one was so cute and delicate I decided it was a female and named her Gerty. Stubbie eventually got bigger but I always know him by his stubby tail. Gerty never got much bigger and is still a very small squirrel. Now we have more new ones. I sure hope none of them lose their tails.
We also had baby rabbits from 2 nests. Unfortunately, our Yorkie depleted the rabbit population by 5. I did manage to save one and placed it back in it's nest. Hopefully, there were more and they went on their way.
Thank you for sharing your stories and pictures of your home and quilts. I always look forward to your emails and posts.
Thank you, Kaye. Isn't it fun to enjoy the wildlife? I'm glad you looked out for Stubbie and Gerty! Did I ever share that we had a bald squirrel last summer? Now that was an odd sight! My kids thought that I needed to make him a little sweater...can you imagine a little well-dressed squirrel like that running around?🤣🤣🤣
DeleteVery cute quilts, Monique. I love all your projects and it inspires me to start something new. We too have all those creatures visit our yard, with the exception of ducks. I do love the bunnies until they deplete my hosta plants. My 'Peter Rabbit food' is just poking its heads through the ground this spring so I'm sure we'll see more bunnies soon. Thank you for sharing. I always look forward to your posts,
ReplyDeleteThank you Cheryl, I appreciate your kind words! Isnt is funny, the bunnies don't bother our Hostas at all, but they can't leave my Sedum alone. I think the biggest thief of my kale is not the bunnies, but our puppy! The other day I was planting my little kale plants and he was busy pulling them out!🤣
