Hello everyone,
I recently finished this sweet little mini quilt ~ can I call it a mini?~ and wanted to share the pattern with you. It was completely made with Accuquilt dies, but you could of course choose to rotary cut some components if you so choose.
{my posts contain affliate links, meaning I get a small commission if anything is purchased through my links}
These are the dies you will need:
Rustling leaves #4 ( click)
And these are the materials you will need:
scraps of cotton fabric
scraps of felt/ wool felt/ wool
fusible web
fat quarters for backing and binding
small piece of batting
To start, you will need to cut 96 1 1/4" squares, which you can do in no time with the little handy-dandy multiple squares die! I used a ton of scraps left over from my hedgehog quilt, still making sure that I laid my fabric scraps on the die CORRECTLY ( selvedge edge close to sticker end).
Sew these squares in pairs of twos, then rows of fours, and then sew the rows together to make a total of 6 16 piece blocks. I found that pressing my seams OPEN and using starch helped my blocks lay nice and flat, because that is a LOT of seams.
Now it is time to cut your alternate ( plain) blocks. Use shape #1 from your 6" Qube ( or cut 3.5" squares) and cut 6 squares.
Sew your pieced blocks and your plain blocks together as in my example. ( I pressed mine towards the plain blocks).
Next, grab your wool/felt/ wool felt scraps and some fusible web and fuse these together following manufacturers instructions. ( You CAN use craft store felt but you have to be really careful because many pieces now contain recycled plastic water bottles, which is great for the environment, but not so great for our irons as the heat could melt and make a sticky mess of that type of felt~ use caution!).
Choose which color and shape you want to cut and make 6 applique shapes.
Now fuse these in place on your plain blocks and then go ahead and stitch them down.( they will overlap your pieced blocks here and there, but that is okay!)
I used a small blanket stitch on mine, using matching thread, but you can of course choose whatever YOU like.
After stitching down your appliques, add batting and backing slightly larger than your front and quilt. I quilted by machine.
Finally cut 2 strips at 2.5" and make a doublefold binding and stitch to your quilt to finish everything up!
All done! If you do make one, please share your results with us in the FB group, OR you can email me a photo as well. I would love to see your creations!
Have fun!
Monique
