Hello friends,
I have sooooo many new things to share with you this week! In fact, I might just have to split this blog post into 2 so it doesn't end up being super long....
First of all, for those of you sewing along with the WINTERBERIES quilt, how are your blocks coming along? I promised you a slow sewalong but I also don't want you all sitting around waiting impatiently for the next set of instructions ;). I have been getting those ready and they should be coming out this coming week! And the best way to make sure you catch all the instructions when they come out is to sign up to follow my blog via email ( see box in the sidebar on the right-hand side). Want a little sneak peek at the next set of blocks?
I have to admit that I have gotten a little sidetracked by some other projects this past week...
I found a sweet mini charm pack hiding in one of my drawers and decided, on a whim, to sew it together into something. No plan, just start. And this is the result:
In addition to the mini charm pack, I also used some linen and wordy fabric from my stash. And then I chose to big stitch hand quilt the scalloped edge as well as the sashing with some blue perle cotton. This quilt was begging for the addition of some buttons, so I auditioned a few options....
...but ended up using the wooden buttons you see in the first photo. Now it just needs the binding sewn on and it will be ready for use. I might just have to make another one of these little quilts, because I happened to find another little mini charm pack the other day....hahahaha! By the way, I couldn't find this particular mini charm pack online anywhere, but I can tell you that buying mini charm packs here is by far the best deal! ( click!)
Some ladies in my facebook group have been sharing various Lori Holt ( of Bee in My Bonnet) blocks and it made me dig out one of my unfinished quilts.
This one is called Bee Happy and it truly brought me joy to work on each and every one of these blocks! But then, all of a Lori's patterns bring me joy because they are always made with happy fabrics :). This quilt was made with simple piecing and templates ( click) and I am hoping to get this one all quilted and bound by next week and then I can finally display it. I made my quilt entirely out of scraps and stash and followed Lori's tutorial on her blog ( where it is still available).
I have so much more to share, everything from new amazing books, to templates, to kits, but they will have to wait until next week! I do want to finish this post with some eye candy....
I visited my favorite re-use store this week and, although my intention was to be very good and only buy one thing, I failed miserably and came home with all kinds of goodies :). I have decided that I have very eclectic taste in fabric!
This fabric with the hearts and thimbles had to come home, don't you think? And that diamond fabric would be a cute border on a happy little quilt...or maybe a pillowcase? These sweet little angels had to come with me. They remind me of the Root Children in this book.
This fabric is so pretty and it reminds me of Minick and Simpson designs.
Some little florals are always nice to own!
I wasn't sure about this fabric at first, but I think the top piece would be gorgeous in a collage quilt, and the bottom is a bit Nordic looking and I love Nordic fabric.I can never resist those pretty trims or buttons....
I have to admit that I barely looked inside this book...the outside cover is eye candy~just look at all those yummy colors!
This whole post was eye Candy!! Love your mini charm quilt. It’s absolutely charming. As you know I’m excited about next steps in Winterberries ;). Thanks for sharing your treasures too. You inspire all of us!
ReplyDeleteaww, thanks so much! And I promise that those instructions will get posted this week ;). I'm excited to see everyone's take on the next set of blocks!
DeleteLove, love everything you bought! I wish we had a store like that around Western Kentucky. I would be in trouble! Your quilts are beautiful, too. I'm saving the patterns as you release them. I may make that little quilt one day. I have so many quilt tops that need quilting I've finally gave up and I'm sending them out to be quilted. I won't feel so guilty about starting another quilt top.
ReplyDeleteI think that is a good idea Kaye! There is no point in having quilt tops piling up...
DeleteAnd if you ever come up north for a visit I will take you to my little shop and we will go crazy together buying all sorts of goodies!
I wish I had a little shop like that near me. Your little quilt is so cute, what size did it finish out at. Hoping to quilt my Let’s Bake quilt this weekend.
ReplyDeleteMy little quilt finished at about 22 inches square. I will post pics in the group today. And I can't wait to see your Let's Bake quilt!
DeleteYour treasures are just beautiful, I wouldn't be able to resist either. Take care dear friend, Guida xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Guida, hope you are doing well and staying cool. Miss 'seeing' you on a regular basis 😘
DeleteOh, how I live a re-sake shop! You did great with all of your finds! I am interested in that Quilt Revival book. I love the 30's repro fabric! Also, I may have to dig into my Lori Holt Vintage Christmas! You did a wonderful job on your quilt, using your stash!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I highly recommend starting one of Lori's quilts...they are so much fun to work on!
DeleteAnd yes, I think everyone should have a shop like this in their town!
Love your finds shopping! We have a little resale shop in town and I have only been in there once. I was leaving there when I fell and destroyed my ankle. Anyway, I do want to check it out again one of these days. I love that you share with us what you are doing. It seems like when I decide on a fun project, I get a commissioned job. Today and tomorrow I have to finish alterations for a bridesmaid. Then a couple days ago my brother asked me to make valances for the kitchen windows in the house he just built for him and his wife. They are a birthday surprise. He did text me a pic of the style. Today he is trying to find a sneaky way to take her shopping and get a pic of fabric she likes for these windows. Then I will get to "hunt" for the fabric. They are in Texas, so this could be interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh my Paula, that will be a tricky shopping expedition! Good luck finding just the right fabric.
DeleteI imagine that you don't have fond memories of your one and only trip to your local re-use store, but I do hope you make it back over there again sometime.
What great finds! Sometimes you just have to splurge.
ReplyDeleteI like you :)
