Hello again,
( this post contains affiliate links, which don't cost you a penny extra, but provide me with a small commission~thank you for your support!)
Is it warm yet where you live? We had a nice teaser of sunshine and warm temps for a few days, and then that tricky Mother Nature decided to turn back to cold and miserable weather! But at least it hasn't snowed ;).
I have been having fun mucking around the house and yard ( weather permitting for that last one!). I think Spring makes me want to rearrange and redecorate inside, while there is nothing much I can yet do outside. Just little changes are fun to make, and they don't cost much ( or are free if you "shop" your own home).
Every once in a while I take some time in my quilt room to work on this project or that...
I finished quilting this little quilt and just need to sew the binding on: This pattern came out of this book by Susan Smith (click). And I treated myself to the newest collection of fabric by Amy Smart, called Notting Hill.
I bought mine from the sweetest shop owner, Minju, who runs Hunniequilt ( click) on Etsy and also found it here ( click). By the way, Minju got my fabric to me in 2 days....all the way from California to Pennsylvania and I just love her so if you are looking to support an independent little shop, please consider shopping with her!
I considered very carefully what I wanted to make with this collection and pulled out all kinds of quilt books and magazines, but nothing seemed quite right. And then this quilt in our family room caught my eye... I have owned it for years and at the moment it is draped over our loveseat.. It is not in very good shape ( you can't see the rips in the border, but they are B A D). I believe I bought it on Ebay and I loved it at first sight! It is a very simple quilt, comprised of snowballs and nine patches, but you know I love those simple quilts the best! Anyway.....this is the quilt I decided to recreate with my Notting Hill fabric collection! I have been measuring, and cutting, and sewing, and remeasuring, and recutting ( I even had to use my seam ripper~ I try to NEVER use my seam ripper!), but I now have the measurements all figured out and am happily constructing blocks!
The original quilt has 20 blocks, each consisting of 4 blocks ( 2 ninepatch and 2 snowballs), and I'm going to see how far my fabric collection will get me! ( By the way, did you notice that I reversed one of the ninepatch blocks in the first set of blocks? I did that on purpose because it looked way more interesting to me). I will keep you up to date on the progress on this one!
And finally, last week I decided to dive into my UFO pile and pulled out this sweet quilt top: The sad thing is that I don't remember at all where the pattern came from or who designed it! So next time, before I put a UFO away, I am attaching a- little- note- to- self! I obviously used a lot of scraps and it is a super happy quilt! I decided to machine quilt the busy center and now am handquilting around those petals in the outside borders with my favorite Sulky 12wt thread (click).
That's all for this week! Please share what you are currently working on! And if anyone knows the pattern name of the petal quilt, please enlighten me!
Until next time~happy creating!
Monique
Your snow ball/nine patch quilt is going to be beautiful! Will be watching for your updates.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I will hopefully make lots of progress to share with you.
DeleteI think your new snowball quilt is going to look amazing in that fabric collection. I have been finishing up my April banner stand quilt, making log cabin blocks for a sweet escape sew along and then got side tracked with a stack of found 4 patch blocks, all while avoiding the quilt I have on my frame. Some weeks are just funny like that.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I totally understand the avoiding of some quilt tasks! But just think how many other darling g quilts you will start/finish/progress on in the meanwhile 🤣
DeleteI can hardly wait to see what your newest quilt will look like when it's all done. Love the fabric!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kaye. I will try to remember to take lots of pics and post them in the FB group!
DeleteYou have such an eye for fabrics Monique. Sew very pretty !
ReplyDeleteIf you only knew how many times I doubt my fabric choices! But the great thing about scraps is that they all just seem to go together somehow.
DeleteThe quilt you pulled out and are hand quilting is beautiful and I think will be a perfect quilt for Easter. It reminds me of colorful Easter eggs!
ReplyDeleteI agree it has all those perfect Easter colors! I am sewing the binding on today, so should have it ready in time for Easter...unless another project begs for my attention ( which they seem to do often....🤣)
DeleteLove all your projects and the fabrics you're using. I too need to work in my yard but still too cold yet for me. We had snow yesterday morning! That's my excuse anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat is a perfect excuse, Sharon! Who wants to be out in the yard in miserable weather? And we both know that we will spend plenty of time tending that yard in the next few months!

ReplyDeleteGreat fun to see you finishing UFOs. It has encouraged me to finish 4 this past 8 days. 2 just needed their binding. Gee, why did I stop there so long ago. 2 needed batting, backing, quilting and binding, but as they were small it didn't take long. One is now next door at Grandmas as her new table topper. Thanks for showing your lovely projects and encouraging me in mine.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm glad to hear that I'm encouraging you to finish projects! I usually get accused of getting people started on yet another new project..hahahaha! I hope you will share pics of your projects!
DeleteWhat size are the little square pieces in your UFO quilt and the overall size of quilt. Thinking of making it with my scraps for my seasonal quilt rack in the kitchen. Thanks! Love all your creations!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Marlynne, my friend Colleen actually found the link to the pattern for me and I posted it in the FB group. Did you see it there?
DeleteI love how you decorate your place, you should be an interior designer, wish you were closer and I would hire you to do my place. Love your new fabric acquisition, enjoy your new quilt. Take care, you should be getting my letter soon, I posted it around the 16/2/21. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Guida, I would do your house for free, just to have the opportunity to spend some time with you ;). I did get your letter...thank you so much! I am planning on writing you back soon! xx
