A sad state of affairs

Hello friends,

I realize it has been a while, but I am back today with a brand new blog post for you!

Not only have I not written a blog post in forever, I also haven't sewn anything in a long, long time...( or so it feels to me!). I was starting to think I might have to pull out and use the dust cover to protect my sewing machine, something which I have never, ever done! What a sad state of affairs, don't you agree?

Do you find that when you haven't sewn for a bit, it is really hard to get back into the groove of things? Today I went into my quilt room with the full intention of finding a brand new project to start, and instead I decided to mow the lawn and mop our hallway ~ and not only that, I even removed the heating vent to clean and spray paint it! If that isn't procrastination I don't know what is! When I finished those tasks, I printed off a brand new quilt pattern to start on, and guess what I'm doing instead? Right! Sitting here and writing a blog post! Send help, I think there is something seriously wrong with me... :D

But seriously now, I think I just have to head upstairs, pull some fun fabric, and start a new, quick, and easy project. Hopefully that will kickstart my creativity once again.

Oh, and in case you are wondering which project I'm going to make...here it is:

Happy Plus Quilt by Accuquilt. Find the free pattern here: https://shrsl.com/40ttx (this is an affiliate link~see my disclosure in the side bar)

I think I'll pull out a layer cake, or maybe even some scraps. This should be a fun one. I will keep you up to date on the progress!

Until next time~happy creating!

Monique

  2. I can identify with the total lack of motive, only mine lasted almost 2 years! I got caught up making masks and gowns during the pandemic and didn't even want to look at my machine. I finally got back to doing something last fall and currently am working on a little patriotic wall hanging. My thinking is that if I can sew an hour a day, in a week I will have sewn a whole day...not bad for a 79 year old! Keep quilting!

    1. I'm sorry that yours lasted so long! But you have the right idea...even a short time every day will add up. Thanks for sharing your story with me xx

  3. Dpring and summer is always like that. Sewing becomes second. Being cooped up all winter! I did find sewing for 30 min a day helpful, eaither early in am or after dark when going outside not top priority. Also on those nice rainy days, sewing as it rains. Just doing s little each day, will surprise you how much u can accomplish in a week. Small projects are also fun to do. Stitching outside in the shade or on the porch in pm is relaxing. I also find looking at the books we have collected with quilts or projects is motivating and begins the planning of fall or Christmas ideas!

    1. You are so right, Deb! And I do believe I can ease back into it in that manner. Thanks for your suggestions!

  4. Gasp - you chose lawn mowing over quilting?!? Hey it happens to all of us! I chose reorganizing things over time in the studio! I like the pattern you are going to make - that will be cute :-)

    1. I know, right? And at least you were doing something that was ultimately going to make your sewing time more pleasant...I'm not sure a freshly mowed lawn counts towards that ;)
