Hey there Rudolph

 Hello friends,

The other day I was on Pinterest ( I LOVE Pinterest!) and found this adorable reindeer head!

( I think made by Sarah Edgar?~sometimes it is really hard to find the original maker! Do go check out her website because she makes adorable stuff!: https://www.prettyfabricsandtrims.co.uk/).

Anyhoooo....I thought that that reindeer head  looked a lot like the penguin body shape on the Accuquilt die....

Do you see it?
So I set to making myself a reindeer head, and came up with this version:

I could have made it look more like the original version by embroidering the antlers and eyes, but I decided I wanted to use just dies ( but of course you can feel free to do whatever you want!).

So let me tell you exactly what I used and what I did!

For the head I used the Penguin die, for the antlers I used the Owl Accessories die, for the nose and ears I used the Petals die, and for the eyes I used the Cute Kitten die.

If you don't have all these dies, don't fret! You can either free-hand cut, or find a similar die shape, or embroider what you need!

To start, you need some felt. I used light brown for the head and ears, dark brown for the antlers, red for the nose, and black and white for the eyes. I also used a larger piece of both white and red for the background, but you could use any color you want/have on hand.
And yes, you can cut felt with your dies!

Start by attaching some fusible web to the back of your chosen felt ( do be careful because the heat of your iron can melt certain types of felt!).

Lay your fused felt on your dies and run them through your machine. Then layer them on your background, making sure to place the antlers and ears under the face shape.

Add the eyes:

Fuse everything down ( again, being careful with that iron!).

You probably do not NEED to do this next step, but I wanted to make sure my pieces stayed put.
Using a straight or zigzag stitch and matching thread,  stitch down your pieces. ( You will notice that I trimmed my background first. It is actually easier if you stitch first!)

Then take some sharp scissors and trim your background so that a little edge is showing as in the photo above.
Your back will looks something like this:

Now take your other piece of background felt and pin your reindeer head on top, INSERTING a hanger between the layers, like so:

Go back to your sewing machine and stitch just inside the edge of the white background to attach this second background. Stitch over top of your hanger to secure it.

IF you want to lightly stuff your reindeer head, leave a little space open to insert some fiberfill.

Then finish stitching the gap closed.
Now you are ready to trim the second ( red) background close to the white one. Make sure to NOT cut your hanger!

I folded the hanger well out of the way so I wouldn't accidentally cut it!

And done!

Isn't he cute?
And like I mentioned before, you can use as much or as little die shapes as you want. I actually really like the embroidered antlers, and I also think that button eyes would be super sweet, so use what you like/own!
